More Islands! Hamarøy and Kjerringøy

The landing in the morning took us to Hamarøy. The place of Knut Hamsun, the Nobel price famous norwegian Author.  And we get to see the Museum dedicated to him.

Lunch and more windy weather on the ship and a few hours of cruising later we arrive at our second destination for the day: Kjerringøy, a beautifully preserved old trading post.

Visiting Lofoten and Å

When woke up this morning with a glimpse of sunshine in Svolvær on the Lofoten. Even though it was rainy and windy we had some fabulous excursions.

Our tough guests went on a fishing trip inside the fjord where it was a bit more sheltered. We caught some nice cods and mackerels. We were even able to feed a sea eagle!!!!

Our expedition team member Lauritz ready for fishing with guest

The other groups went to the nice tour city walk with local guide.

Later in the afternoon we were planning a landing for everybody at the southern tip of the Lofoten, the village called Å. But the wind conditions were not good for tendering to the shore so we stick to the plan B and went alongside at the Reine, then busses takes us to Å.

Autumn storms in Vesterålen

As soon as we hit the ocean again after leaving Tromsø the evening before the storm hit us and he had a bit of a rough trip down the coast, which is why we had to use the more sheltered harbour at Myre and take a bus to Nyksund. An old fishing town turned artist centre. We got literally blown away by the experience!

After that we still had more sailing on our program on our way to Lofoten. Through the Raudfjord and a visit to Trollfjord, one of the most scenic little fjords we could visit with the Fram. The super small passage is impressive by itself, but the highlight was when the Polarlys, the regular coastal Hurtigruten ship came in as well and we met at the end of the fjord! There have probably never before been 2 Hurtigrutenships at the same time in Trollfjorden before!
